Bennington, VT Votes. Primary: Aug 13, 2024
Asher Edelson says difficult challenges are something he’s taken on from an early age, which could place his campaign for the Vermont House right in his wheelhouse.
The 29-year-old, a Democrat, said he’s gathering voter signatures for a run from Bennington-2 House district in the fall elections.
“I am running for the Vermont House of Representatives because I feel strongly that disability accessibility, public transit and other crucial issues need to be addressed with a new perspective, and that is what I will bring to Montpelier,” Edelson said.
Edelson said he was born in Atlanta and moved to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area in Florida with his family as a toddler. Florida is where he first encountered a lifelong disability challenge when he was diagnosed at at age seven with Tourette Syndrome.
Nevertheless, Edelson graduated from high school before having to withdraw from college for medical reasons because of complications related to the neurological disability.
“I took it upon myself to receive deep brain stimulation surgery, which enabled me to get back on the horse,” he said.
